Approximately 800,000 people die every year by suicide worldwide. Out of these around 140,000 people die in India Itself which is around 17% of the total case. If we calculate world wide suicidal rate then it is diverse. A country with a most troubled situation like Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan are the lowest as compared to the country with financially stable like China, Japan, South Korea and some European nations. The different condition leads to suicide in a different country like in china Women are more likely to do suicide than men because China’s economic boom has led to greater independence for women, who are now much more able to get divorced as a means of dealing with domestic violence. This is because they have to work for a long hour and takes care of their children’s and due to separation and often without the support of family that the culture has traditionally relied on in the past.

According to WHO data, the age-standardized suicide rate in India is 16.4 per 100,000 for women (6th highest in the world) and 25.8 for men (ranking 22nd). In India, about 46,000 suicides occurred each in 15–29 and 30–44 age groups in 2012 – or about 34% each of all suicides. But in India, a variety of causes leads to suicide like marriage disputes, Farmer suicide(crop failure and indebtedness), Job risk, love, family problems, etc.

Japanese men are twice as likely to commit suicide as their female counterparts, particularly after a divorce. Of special concern is suicide among men who have recently lost their jobs and are no longer able to provide for their families. They may feel that they have dishonored themselves and their families and that suicide is the honorable way out of the situation.

In South korea  students have higher-than-average suicide rates than elderly, at least in part because their families tend to put high levels of pressure on them to succeed academically. When they do not achieve the goals that their parents have set for them, they may feel that they have dishonored their families and commit suicide. Alcohol use, sleep deprivation, stress, and poor social relationships can put students at increased risk of suicide.

Role Of a Social The worker in preventing Suicide:-

Social workers have so many opportunities to prevent suicide in this country including implementing evidence-based programs and therapies. Students who are interested in suicide prevention should identify professors who are knowledgeable about suicide prevention and have some practice experience. They should also seek out fieldwork opportunities that will allow them to gain experience working at a crisis center, hospital, or outpatient clinic.

A social worker should not be afraid of talking about suicide. While dealing with his/her clients he/she should take the utmost care and use his/her expertise to solve the problems of his/her clients.

Recently a new trend emerges for suicide i.e Gaming, Game like Bluebell is a widely used game worldwide and it is ban in India because many youngsters have end their life because of its unorthodox challenges. So a social worker should educate its students regarding the impact of their family when they chose suicide is the only option.
