Sponsor body of the scholarship
The scholarship is being offered by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India and implemented by the Government of Tripura for the students who have permanently settled within the state.

About the scholarship
Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India has announced the Pre Matric Scholarships Scheme for ST, Tripura 2018. The aim of this scheme is to minimize the incidence of drop out by supporting parents of ST children in educating their wards studying in classes 9 and 10. It also aims to improve the participation of ST children in classes 9 and 10 of the pre-matric stage, so that they perform better and have a better chance of progressing to the post-matric stage of education.

Eligibility for the scholarship
1. Belong to Scheduled Tribe
2. Be a domicile of the state of Tripura
3. Be studying in Class 9 or 10
4. Have Parents’/Guardian’s income not exceeding INR 2 lakh per annum
5. Not be receiving benefits of any other Centrally-funded scholarship
6. Be enrolled as a full-time student in a Government or Government recognised school

Benefits of the scholarship
1. Scholarship and other grants
2. Additional allowance for students with disabilities studying in private un-aided recognized schools
3. Additional allowances for ST students with disabilities studying in private unaided Schools

Term and condition
1. Scholarship for studying in any class will be available for only one year. If a student has to repeat a class, she/he would not get a scholarship for that class for a second (or subsequent) year.
2. House rent allowance received by the parents of a student shall be exempted from the computation of ‘income’ if the same has been permitted to be exempted for the purpose of Income tax.
3. Candidates belonging to one State but studying in another State will be awarded scholarships by the State to which they belong.
4. The scholarship will be payable for 10 months in an academic year.

Application procedure
1. An application for scholarship should comprise:
a. One copy of the application for scholarship in the prescribed form (separate application forms as have been prescribed for ‘fresh’ and renewal scholarship by concerned States/UTs).
b. One copy of the passport size photograph with signatures of the student thereon (for fresh scholarship).
c. A certificate (in original) of Scheduled Tribe duly signed by an authorized Revenue Officer not below the rank of Tehsildar.
d. An income declaration by the self-employed parents/guardians, stating definite income from all sources by way of an affidavit on non-judicial stamp paper. Employed parents/guardians are required to obtain income certificate from their employer and for any additional income from other sources, they would furnish declaration by way of an affidavit on non-judicial stamp paper.
e. A receipt in acknowledgement of the scholarship in the previous year on the form attached to the application only duly counter-signed by the Head of the Institution/School concerned, if the applicant was in receipt of a scholarship under this scheme in the preceding year.
2. Application complete in all respects, shall be submitted to the Head of the Institution/School, being attended or last attended by the candidates and shall be forwarded by the Head of Institution, after scrutiny and with his recommendation, to the sanctioning authority.
