Reading Comprehension MCQ- 7th October 2022

Read the passage below and answer back to question no. 1 to 4

The Mumbai film industry is on a discovery of India and itself after nearly three decades of pondering Swarovski-encrusted navels on growing flat abs. Four upcoming films from renowned directors are exploring the idea of who we are and redefining who the other is with budgets of over 30 crore each. The bling-bling, glam-sham, and disham-disham tend to avoid this fundamental question. The question of "who are we as a nation?" also unites a crowd when the lights dim and the projector starts to run. Where are we headed as a society?

Zeitgeist is a term that the Germans invented for it; perhaps Yash Chopra would prefer not to pronounce it. But even at age 72, he is still the one who can capture it the best. In a new film, he goes back to his roots after being the first to portray the diasporic Indian on screen in Lamhe in 1991. In the 1986 film Veer Zaara, Pakistan—the stereotypical other, the piece that got away—acts as both the lover and the rescuer. The English woman is the other in 1947-set novel Kisna by Subhas Ghai. She is a mehbooba, not a memsahib. The East India Englishman in Ketan Mehta's The Rising is not the vile oppressor of endless cardboard characterizations, which range from Jewel in the Crown to Kranti.

This is Manoj Kumar's Desh Ki Dharti, but with a twist: there is culture instead of divisive politics; balle balle instead of bombs; and there is only nazdeekiyan (close proximity) (closeness).

A new hero and heroine are introduced in each of the four films. The new hero is less of a boy and more of a man; he is fallible and vulnerable, committed to his dharma, but also not afraid of failure. He even has a grown-up name: Mohan Bhargav in Swades and Veer Pratap Singh in Veer-Zaara. The new heroine is no longer a babe but frequently a bebe, dressed in traditional Punjabi attire and frequently possessing the stereotypical body type, as in Gurinder Chadha's Bride and Prejudice.
